Our Traditions

We welcome the beginning of the school year with a Back-to-School Social for MICH families and staff.

In September the entire school gathers on the Toddler Playground to celebrate International Day of Peace.

Every Fall the Upper Elementary students go on a three-day class trip to Echo Hill Outdoor School. The purpose of this trip is to help students learn more about the environment and themselves.

In October, MICH celebrates Halloween with Ghosts of the Past. Elementary students select a historical figure to research and report on to the entire school. The PTO holds a “spooktacular” event on campus where all students can wear their costumes.

In December, Mrs. Gawell’s Primary Class celebrates St. Lucia Day with the entire school. The students make traditional Lussekatts, which are buns flavored with saffron and dotted with raisins. This Scandinavian holiday celebrates the bringing of light during the cold winter months.

December is also the time for the PTO’s Secret Shop. This fun-filled event allows children the opportunity to shop in “secret” for holiday gifts for their families while parents mingle and enjoy delicious goodies at the bake sale.

Every year Primary and Elementary students present a Musical Performance at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.

In spring the 3rd year elementary students spend a day at Echo Hill increasing their environmental knowledge of the Bay.

May Day/Earth Day is celebrated with international songs and dances.

In spring, we celebrate Grandparents & Special Friends Day by welcoming them to visit our classrooms with their grandchildren.
