Montessori Education

Dr. Maria Montessori was born in Italy in 1870. She was a physician and educator who devoted her life to children and was honored and respected throughout the world at the time of her death in 1952. She was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1949, 1950, and 1951.

It is not true that I invented what is called the Montessori method. I have studied the child, I have taken what the child has given me and expressed it and that is what is called the Montessori method. - Maria Montessori

Dr. Montessori believed that education is a self-constructing process; we each must do it ourselves. Educated individuals, because they are internally motivated by a curiosity and a love for knowledge, continue learning long after the time they leave the classroom.

Montessori classrooms are designed for a three-year age mix to allow for both individual and social development. The more experienced children share what they have learned with those new to the group. Each child's unique personality is encouraged; each child is respected as an important member of a harmonious community.

Montessori education addresses itself to the development of the whole human being and allows children to find their own place, time and group. It is truly an education for the development of the whole human being, body, mind, and spirit.
